FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please read the following questions carefully! If you have a question that we have not addressed here, you can ask us via Twitter DM or on CuriousCat.What's a zine?
Zines are fan-created books that typically focus on a specific fandom, character, or ship. Often they will come with additional merch items. They're by fans, for fans.So what is this project?
This is a zine about Scaramouche from Genshin Impact. We're still working out the specifics of whether we're allowing portrayals of romantic relationships, if the setting needs to be in Teyvat or if we're allowing AUs, etc. This is all going to be decided by the interest check, so please fill it in once it's live! How does it work?
We held an interest check early in the process to help determine if the project will go ahead, and the specifics of what content to include.
Next is the application stage. People who are interested in contributing content and being part of the zine can apply and express their interest in being in the zine. Mods will then pick artists, merch artists and writers to come and take part.
After people have been chosen, production begins - this process takes several months as contributors start preparing their pieces.
And then we go live for sales! Sales are done on a preorder basis, i.e. you can place your order, we place the order once we know how many we need, and we send you the items once we have received them.Is it for profit or for charity?
The aim is to sell enough copies to give every contributor a full bundle of both zines and all the merch (or a financial payment in lieu of those items), with free shipping. Any profits after that will be split equally with all participants. If breakeven is not reached, participants may be asked to fund their own shipping for the bundles or make a contribution to the production costs. How many people are you accepting through applications?
We will be accepting a maximum of 35 artists and 10 writers through applications for the SFW zine. We may accept less than this depending on how the interest check looks.
The number of merch artists we accept will depend on what type and quantity of merch people want, but we anticipate 3-5.
If we go ahead with an NSFW zine, we will take additional people to create for this part of the project. How old do I need to be to apply?
18 or older by the time applications close. If we find out that you are younger than this, your application will be disregarded. If you lied about your age and get accepted, you will be removed from the project with no compensation if we find out. What are the application guidelines?
Please check the applications tab for more information. Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes, but you are unlikely to be asked to fill more than one position. Note that merch artists may be asked to produce two pieces of merch as part of their 'one role'.Will the zine have NSFW content?
After reviewing our interest check, we can confirm that there will be a full physical NSFW zine. Digital options will also be available. Are creators allowed to share their work publicly? Who owns the art or writing produced for the zine?
Creators retain all ownership rights to their work but by taking part, you're giving us the 'right of first print'. (This is very standard for fanzines!)
All this means is that during the creation period, we ask that creators refrain from posting the work publicly. Once we get further into production - i.e. the books have all been shipped out to people who purchased, creators will be able to post their work publicly, produce extra prints to sell, etc.
Note that this schedule is subject to change as the project develops and the work gets underway.
